Raccoons and a Skunk

The raccoons seem to be in competition with the squirrels to see who can be the first to find where I've moved my camera traps to. The raccoons must cover a lot of territory at night because it doesn't take too long to start getting pics of them. The skunk on the other hand is somewhat of a rarity. We have a pretty good population of skunks in the area but I don't get many pics of them. Maybe they're camera shy ;).

We tend to have a lot of skunks around our property. I would prefer more raccoons instead.

Those raccoons are too cute for words, they look busy. Poor skunk,no-one is going to call him cute..have you ever had the bad fortune to smell their stinky self-defence system Joe?

Liesl - Yes I have. I went out to get some wood off my porch one night some years ago and scared one who proceded the spray me. My wife said the smell never left the blue jeans I had on. Every time she ironed them she said she could smell the skunk.

Although your snow has melted (hmph) I imagine all the critters are now competing for what food they can find.

Oh my gosh Joe--the raccoons are so cute. Great shot of that skunk-wow.
What fun to find what you’ve captured out there :)

what a cool blog!
I know racoons are rascals and all but there is something about the markings on their faces- I just love photos of them! These are cool.

When we had a fishpond in Los Angeles, raccoons came at night and ate all the fish. They are huge in LA and walk down the streets at night. Here in our canyon, I haven't seen any and no skunks either, but they have them in our town here. Great pics as usual.--Inger
