Does and Gobblers

Been getting a lot of Turkey pics lately. The breeding season is getting cranked up and there’s been a lot of activity. I heard two birds gobbling while I was checking my cameras. The primary breeding period is from mid April through mid May in my area. I’ve been hoping to get some pics of one of the gobblers strutting but I haven’t got any yet. Hopefully over the next month I’ll catch one.

Below are some pics of a group of Does crossing paths with two small gobblers. One of the Does is either very curious about the birds or annoyed they are browsing the same area she is. I’m guessing annoyed.

she doesn't look like she's enjoying their company, for sure.

do you have a spring turkey hunting season there? i read on another blog that in their state, its about to start in a week or two. wouldn't that intrude on their nesting times?

Yep. Definitely looks annoyed! Just as I would be;))

Great captures of these turkeys. We had a whole group (around 20) trot over the hill and through our yard, on their way to our waterfall/spring area.

Apparently the doe was not annoyed enough to actually intrude on the turkeys' breakfast. They can be an aggressive bird. :)

No leaves on your trees yet, Joe?

It's funny to see the deer and turkeys kind of hanging out together. I never visualized that.

I hope that you get a male turkey strutting. I've never seen that in person or on my cams but wild turkeys are pretty rare at my elevation. I see tracks or turkeys only a few times a year.

I did come upon a grouse the other day who did his whole mating display for me. It was pretty cool but I couldn't get my camera out fast enough to get a photo before he strutted away.
