Mountain Turkeys

Got some nice shots of one of the big Turkey flocks today. I actually got to see them driving up the road to check the camera. They had stayed in the area all day and had a large area scratched up looking for any left over acorns, seeds, or insects that might have ventured out of their winter hiding place during the warm weather. The first set of pics were taken a little after 7:30 this morning and then they were back at the camera around 2 o'clock this afternoon. Couple of pretty good size birds in the flock.

Okay, and I love the feather patterns you were able to capture on the 2nd to last one... Nice to have daytime shots on these beauties!

Those are some nice pictures of turkey's I'll say that. I went out today looking for sheds and I was still trying to get through 2' of snow.

That's a lot of thunder chickens there, Joe! I enjoy watching them move through the woods. Although, it seems I see more turkeys when I'm deer hunting than when I'm turkey hunting. Funny how that works.

These are some beauties. We had a whole group trot right through our "yard" and in front of the barn, just a couple of weeks ago. Couldn't believe it when I saw them out the window.

Great shots Joe. It’s funny-they look so much like small peacocks to mee. There are some big ones here for sure.

I've never seen such a large flock of wild turkeys. Wow.

Funny, they don't seem so concerned with the clicking of your cam. Maybe it's because they're a little short in the brains department?

On the way home from the city the other day we detoured through 'gator alley and saw a flock of 5 bachelor jakes. Yes, there were gators laying around too, but they aren't too active yet. Since we'd been to the city I didn't have my camera.

We get huge flocks in the mountains when the acorns fall. Funny, when you're trying to hunt them for supper you hear them but never see them.

Nice bunch of turkeys there, Joe. I like the one spreading it's wings. Shame it wasn't just a tat closer.

I can't help but think of a book I have that tells the story of the pilgrims. The scenery looks just like this! With fat turkeys to boot!

Thanks all :)!!

Farmchick - That's neat. I've had them in the fields around the house but never in the yard.

KB - This camera is much quieter than the one that bothers the deer so much. Supposedly the only difference is one is an IR and the other is not.

Haven't seen much of our turkeys since the snow melted. I imagine they are keeping to the windbreaks and more secluded areas -- and waiting for mating season to being.

Those are some biggun's you've got there. Great photos. :)
