Turkey Day

There's no hunting in Virginia on Sundays so I went and check the cameras. We'd been seeing a lot of turkeys along this road the last couple of weeks and I finally got some good pics of them. Couple of these would make a good size Thanksgiving bird.
The deer have been winning so far last week. Been seeing a good many small bucks along with two shooter bucks. Shooter bucks in our camp generally means having at least eight points with a spread at least to their ears or about 16 inches. Both of the shooter bucks managed to keep enough tree limbs and brush between them and me to prevent me from getting a good shot. It's uncanny how they can do that. Been fun seeing a buck and thinking back to the pics I have of them. Though I have seen a couple that I didn't have any pics of. Back after them tomorrow. Ya'll have a good week.

Love the curious turkey in your photos! Great shots! At least you're seeing some good bucks in the woods, but I'm sure you'd like to see them a little closer/clearer. Maybe this week. Thanks for taking Sunday off (forced or not) and catching up with us! We've missed you! :)

Thanks for sharing your game pictures again, Joe. Your right Turkey eating day is coming soon and one of those would work out just great. Good luck with the deer hunt.

I love the pictures and I do hope you get a turkey too. I wonder why you cannot hunt on Sunday's.
Have a good week

I saw a few wild turkeys a couple of weeks ago, walking around our lane by the wind break. The dogs felt they need to investigate and they flew -- haven't seen them since. Not so big as the ones in your photos, but close. Great pictures! Gobble, gobble.

Why is hunting not allowed on Sundays???

It's kinda like what I've heard about drinking and having sex on Sundays. Gasp! I lived in liquor-controlled OH for several years (especially compared to CA) and heard one-too-many stories from my former mother-in-law (a PhD in sexual deviance) about decency in NC and proper Sunday decorum.

ps - Wish I could have stated this better, but it makes me laugh to think about it too much.

Is that inquesitive one saying, " me,me,look how fat I am,get me if you can??"
Some of those look huge. Enjoy your hunting!

Yes, "uncanny" is the word. I also think each deer family keeps a copy of the regs for reference!

Thanks all. For these of you that ask about the no hunting deal on Sundays I think Katie has it about right and I don't look for it to change any time soon. Virginia is still a pretty conservative state. But actually the older I've got I need a day off :). Sitting in a tree is a lot harder than you might think ;). LOL!!
I did forget to mention that my farmer buddy, who gets to hunt about a third of what the rest of us do, got a nice 9 pointer last Tuesday. So we've had to take some good natured ribbing on why no one else has gotten one.

Those are some nice pics. I don't know what is worse this year the over population of deer or the over population of turkies.
