Gray Foxes

Pretty slow week in the woods last week. Didn't see any shooter bucks and very few bucks of any kind. The deer have been hunted now for three weeks and this has made them pretty nocturnal. I went back through my logbook and I saw 18 bucks the first week and a half I hunted for an average of about two bucks a day. Three were shooter bucks. Some were the same bucks on different days but still not a bad average. Last week I saw two small bucks all week for an average of .33 bucks per day. But I can't hardly complain about hunting and bumming around the cabin for the last two and a half weeks :). Back to work tomorrow for three days. I figure I'll have two hours of going through emails and another hour of going through voice messages. I should be pretty well be ready to get back into the woods by mid morning. LOL!!
We had a Rockfish and Oyster fry one night at the cabin. Yes, it's pretty tough hanging out at the cabin :). I took the skins and scrapes from the fish and put them out on some rocks above the cabin on Cedar Ridge. I was hoping to catch a Bobcat but was pleased that I got a pair of Gray Foxes. I haven't seen or gotten pics of many Grays for a while. I was afraid the Coyotes had killed most of them off so it's good to see a pair.

I think the coyote I saw twice in one week a couple weeks ago got the pair of fox that we had on our farm. I use to see them everyday out in the horse pasture... I haven't seen them in about 2 weeks.

Neat! Glad you at least enjoyed your stay at the cabin. Now back to reality for a bit of work. But a 3 day work week is a wonderful way to ease back in. :)

Maybe that's why I never see any foxes here -- too many coyotes. Hope you won't mind going back to work too much.--Inger

We have a lot of coyotes on our property, so maybe that is why I don't see too many foxes. Nice pics of these gray ones. Cabin life it tough! lol It is tough for my husband and son as well.

The pressure around our place didn't seem to bother the deer too much. My son got his first doe last night right before dark. Good size one - he's pretty happy.

We used to see fox on our place a few years ago, but we have more coyotes now like everyone else and I believe they keep the fox away.

Glad you are enjoying your time off, Joe. Cabin life must be so relaxing. :)

Joe, these are great pictures. I had a fox on our farm this year--but I had never seen one and wasn't sure if it was a fox or a coyote (hadn't seen one of those in person either). Looking at your pics-I think I saw a fox. He looked sickly and just stared at me. These look really pretty. Great catch. Have fun:)

Hunting has been tough here, too. We're seeing very few, if any, deer. Love the fox pictures, Joe!

What some beauties those two are! I'd sure like to run into a few where I hunt, but not for pics ☺

The cabin sounds like a great place to hang out. Hope you get to see some deer soon. It can make it a long day when your not seeing anything that's for sure.

Best of luck to you and keep up the good work here ☺
