Fur Git'r Lure

     For the past couple of weeks I've been testing some scent lure called Fur Git'r. Nancy, over at A Rural Journal, sent me a 1 oz. bottle to use in some of my camera sets.      I've used the lure on two different sets the past couple of weeks and have been very pleased with the results. I use scent capsules and wool to hold the lure. Each week both sets were hit and the capsules chewed up. If you read last weeks post you know the triplets messed up one of the sets before I got any other pics. This week I was really pleased that I got some coyote pics. It's been close to a year since I got any coyotes on camera. There are two coyotes in the first pics and one sneaking back in for another look in the second.

This three pic group shows a fox coming into the lure I set in an old stump. I switched to video mode last week and I'm still working out some issues with that with most of the issues being with me the operator :(. Hopefully video next week.

Antlers Still Hanging On

Still had one buck that had his antlers last week...one side anyway. I posted pics of the young eight pointer from Feb. 13th, 17th, and 27th. By the 27th he had lost one antler and I'm sure by now he has lost both since they generally drop off in a short period if not at the same time. I need to take a look over the field and power line and see if I can find them.

Also got a nice coyote last week. This is the first coyote I've gotten a picture of in about six months. This is the breeding season so I suspect they are on the prowl more than normal.

Coyotes and Foxes

Got a mixed bag last week on my ridge set. Unfortunately I think I had my camera angled down too much trying to compensate for the slope of the ridge. This focused the flash too close to the camera and I didn't get good lighting further out so the pics came out a little dark . The first two pics are of I think two different coyotes. The first is a smaller one and the second one is the large one I think I got pics of back in the early fall down on the road. The third pic is a nice gray fox.  The rest are of a good size red fox.

Big Coyote II

More pics of the coyote. He came by the camera at about the same time the very next morning. I’m assuming it a male anyway just going by the size. Got a rare three series set of him this time. I usually only get one pic of the coyotes. I believe this is the third time I’ve gotten pictures of him. The ones over the last two weeks at this set and once at another camera set last summer. Big Coyote

I thought I'd have either some bear or coyote pics today when I checked my camera and Dawson's nose went into overdrive around the area. Turned out to be a coyote and a big one. Only got one pic of him. I posted the coyote pic and a pic of Dawson in about the same location to compare size. Last time at the vet Dawson weighted 50lbs. This coyotes looks to be a little more stocky and about the same size as Dawson so I'm guessing it would weight between 55 to 60 lbs. That's a pretty big coyote for this area.

Coyotes

Some of the coyote pics I've gotten over the last year. The coyotes are pretty wary and rarely do I get more than one pic even though I have my cameras set to take a three shot series 10 seconds apart. Most pics are at night.

Looks like the camera starting up alerted this one and he started
to crouch down.
