I'm seriously considering moving my camera set in the Little Woods. While it's a great location I'm having some old problems with it. Mainly cattle and whiteout. For some reason the cattle have taken to the woods this summer instead of staying in the pasture. Last summer they never once came by this set but the last two weeks they've become regulars. Only explanation I can come up with is flies. This year is about the worst for flies I can remember. They're everywhere. They don't come in ones and twos they come in legions. I'm guessing the cattle are taking to the woods to try to escape the flies. The whiteout problem I've had at this set since I started using it. It only occurs in certain time windows. As you've seen from other pics from here there's a lot of bright sunshine and deep shade. I think the cause of the whiteout is when the camera is in the shade and several feet out from it is bright sunshine. Being in the shade makes the camera think it needs to flash to get the picture and this causes too much lighting so I get whiteout.
I did get a nice young buck this week. Looks like his antlers are getting ready to fork again.
Whiteout. Here's an example of the whiteout problem. This is about a middle of the road whiteout.

ok, the whiteout is annoying, but the cattle are kind of sweet. (i know, not in a hunter kind of way...) the bucks are pretty red!
I don't mind the cattle, Joe. They are pretty and interesting in their own right. :)
Hi Y'all,
Love those wild bovine!
Y'all come by now,
Hawk aka BrownDog
wonderful light on the deer ictures
Well, I like the cow photos also. This is a neat way of capturing things.
I'll tall ya, Joe....
Nothing drives me nuts more than the white-out issues from camera traps!
My bushnells are plagued by it in the woods during the summer.
That is a nice young buck there. I like seeing the antlers as they develop. It's a bit weird seeing cattle in the woods.
I hope you had a good holiday weekend, Joe!
I think you should sell this to the tabloids....deer, deer, deer **flash of light** cow, cow...you have photographic proof of alien activity ;)
I have to admit that I don't mind seeing the occasional bovine either. I have been healing from my accident but am now back to reading blogs again. Yours was the first one I hit...shhhh, don't tell anyone!
I love seeing the young buck growing their antlers, it never fails to amaze me that they grow from scratch each year.
Ah yes...the bovine! Like the deer better, since cattle are a staple in these parts. :D
Joe Our cattle spend most days in the bush. It is cool and the bugs are not as bad. Great deer shot. B
